Alexey Likhachev spoke about the development of the National Center for Fundamental Medicine and Moscow State University in Sarov at a meeting with the President of Russia.

At a meeting with Vladimir Putin on the Day of Nuclear Industry Worker, General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev spoke about the results of the industry and the development of MSU Sarov and the National Center for Physics and Mathematics:

“The task of the nuclear weapons complex is to develop fundamental science and the core, the center of this science is the National Center for Physics and Mathematics. We have 189 people graduate from the MSU Sarov branch, National Center for Physics and Mathematics. Of these, 140 remained in Sarov, 190 in the industry, six people returned to their alma mater and continue to work with us. That is, there is almost one hundred percent demand.”

Today, the NCFM is developing a broad scientific collaboration involving over 70 universities and academic organizations, and a network of laboratories is being formed. Among the flagship projects, Alexey Likhachev named a Compton source for nuclear structure research, a supercomputer with a photon accelerator, and a laser complex for extreme light fields:

«People are consciously choosing to work in cities with nuclear weapons complexes, with all the restrictions that go with them. A huge thank you to Viktor Antonovich Sadovnichy, and to the Academy of Sciences. We truly have extensive cooperation, over 70 academic institutions, and an entire network of laboratories is currently developing. And our three flagship projects, mega-installations, are a Compton source for studying nuclear structure, a supercomputer with a photon accelerator (we’ve already achieved a prototype processor with a performance of 1017 operations per second, and we’re working toward 1021), and our laser complex. The entire system is working.»
